Ans 2:
Myanmar also known as Burma attained independence in 1948 from colonial rule and became a democratic country. However, a military coup in 1962 ended the democratic rule in the country. In 1990, almost 30 years later, elections were held for the very first time in the Myanmar. The National League for Democracy headed by Aung San Suu Kyi won the election but the military leaders refused to step down or recognise the election results. Instead they placed Suu Kyi under house arrest. They also jailed the political activists accused of trivial offenses. Various orders have been passed by the military to imprison anyone caught publicly sharing or airing statements against the regime. These coercive policies have forced people to migrate to other places.
Even after being under house arrest, Suu Kyi continues to campaign for democracy while the people of Myanmar are struggling to establish democracy in their country.
