Some social reforms carried out by Akbar were:
- Akbar issued orders to the kotwal not to allow any forcible practice of sati (burning of a widow on the funeral pyre of her husband).
- He legalised widow remarriage
- Akbar raised the age of marriage of girls to 14 and of boys to 16.
