Apartheid was a name given to a system of racial discrimination which was unique to South Africa. It was imposed by the White Europeans on the black nationals of South Africa. The racism was practised in the following manner:

• The system was domineering for the blacks.
• They were prohibited from living in white areas.
• They needed a permit to work in white areas.
• Trains, buses, taxis, hotels, hospitals, schools and colleges, libraries, cinema halls, theatres, beaches, swimming pools and public toilets were separate for the whites and blacks.
• They were also banned from entering churches where the whites worshipped.
• Blacks were not allowed to form associations or protest against the terrible treatment.
