Democracy is important for a country because:
People elect their own representatives who make laws for the country.
It ensures proper functioning of the government since it is the people who elect them and therefore this makes them more accountable.
Citizens enjoy fundamental rights and other political rights in a democracy.
Democracy is based on consultations and discussions. People collectively discuss and take decisions and this improves the quality of decision making.
If the representatives of the people do not change their incorrect decisions, they may not get elected by the people in the next elections
