What is a scale? Explain one main feature of small scale and large scale maps.

Expert Answer
Scale is the ratio between the actual distance on the ground and distance shown on the map.
There are two types of scale maps. They are:
- Small Scale Maps: It shows large areas on a small scale. For example, 1 cm on the map can show up to 100 km on the ground.
- Large Scale Maps: It shows small areas on a paper. For example, 2 cm on a map may show only 200 meters on the ground.
