Simile:
A comparison between two unlike things. Similes use the words 'like' or 'as.'
Example: His dreams dried up like a raisin in the sun.
Metaphor:
A comparison between two unlike things without using the words like or as.
Example:
She is all states, and all princes, I.
Imagery:
It is based on the five senses to create an image in the reader's mind.
Example:
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Repetition:
Repeating words, phrases, or lines for poetic effect.
Example:
To the swinging and the ringing
of the bells, bells, bells--
Onomatopoeia:
Words that imitate sounds.
Example:
water plops into pond
splish-splash downhill
warbling magpies in tree
trilling, melodic thrill
