1. Apical Meristem:

• The apical meristem is located at the growing points of the stem, roots, branches and in growing young leaves near the tips of the stem and axillary buds.
• It enables the roots and stem to grow by increasing the length of plants.

2. Lateral Meristem:

• Lateral meristem is present laterally (i.e. on the sides) on the roots and stem and is situated parallel to the longitudinal axis below the bark.
• It is also found in vascular bundles of dicot roots and stems.
• The girth and width (diameter or thickness) of the stem or root increases because of the lateral meristem.

3. Intercalary Meristem:

• It is located at the internodes or the stem regions where the leaf is attached to its base, especially of certain monocotyledons.

• The cells of the intercalary meristem are active and continuously form several new cells.
