In the poem The Seven Ages of Man Shakespeare uses metaphor to liken the life of a person to the enactment of a play on a stage. He imagines the a person's life divided in seven stages depending on the roles he plays as he grows up. He then draws similarities between this and an actor who puts up a show playing different parts in a play. In doing so, he draws out the seriousness with which people lead their life. he indicates that life will unfold itself as is its character and is not affected by our worry and anxiety. We as humans have only one part to play and that is the one we are playing in the present. We cannot change our past nor predict our future. All we can do is play our present part to our best ability.
