While changing a sentence which is in the interrogative form and in the direct speech into reported speech, the reporting verb ‘said’ generally changes to ask. The other rules are similar to the ones used in changing normal sentences.
Example:
Direct: He said, “Are you going to take the whole day to plough a small patch of my land?”
Indirect: He asked if I was going to take the whole day to plough a small patch of his land.
Direct: I asked him, “Are you feeling well today?”
Indirect: I asked him if he was feeling well that day.
