Addition of oxygen is an oxidation reaction. Ethanol has one oxygen atom and ethanoic acid has two oxygen atoms. Thus conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid is called as an oxidation reaction. Oxidation is also defined as removal of hydrogen and during this conversion number of hydrogen atom decreases from ethanol to ethanoic acid
