Expert Answer
An exclusive economic zone is an area of coastal waters and sea bed which lies within a certain distance of a country’s coastline, to which the country claims exclusive rights for fishing, drilling and other economic activities.
Countries with coastal lines exploit resources in their exclusive economic zone. For example, India drills oil from Bombay High which is an offshore area.
Countries like India, China, Japan, Chile, USA, Russia and other coastal countries in their own exclusive economic zone, mine petroleum, manganese nodules, limestone, gypsum, potassium, sand, gravel, salt etc.
