ICSE Class 9 Answered
In a thermometer, the upper and lower fixed points are separated by a distance of 80 cm. Its lower fixed point is 0oC. What will be the temperature on celsius scale and kelvin scale if the mercury level rises upto a height of 9.6 cm above the lower fixed point?

Expert Answer
Distance between the fixed points on the given thermometer = 80 cm
Let the temperature is Tc corresponding to 9.6 cm height of the mercury level above the lower fixed point.
Therefore,
or Tc = 12
On Kelvin scale 12 = (273 + 12) K = 285 K
