how to calculate the charge on polyatomic ions like SO2,SO3,PO4,NO3 etc.

SO2
The charge on S is +4 and charge on O is -2 hence +4+(2×-2)=0
Hence the charge on SO2 is zero.
SO3
The charge on S is +4 and charge on O is -2 hence +4+(3×-2)=-2
Hence the charge on SO3 is -2.
PO4
The charge on P is +5 and charge on O is -2 hence +5+(4×-2)=-3
Hence the charge on PO4 is -3.
NO3
The charge on N is +5 and charge on O is -2 hence +5+(3×-2)=-1
Hence the charge on NO3 is -1.
