How are islands formed?

Islands are formed due to several factors. These are:

Large islands are formed generally as a result of tectonic activity.
Some islands may be formed due to volcanic activity. Many islands in the Andaman and Nicobar groups of islands have been formed due to volcanic eruptions.
Some islands may be formed out of corals. For example, some islands in the Lakshadweep group of islands.
Small islands are formed as a result of denudation and deposition by the sea waves.
