1. The Gupta Empire was the fourth largest entity to have ever ruled India. Under Chandragupta II the Gupta empire reached its zenith during his reign. Under him, the Gupta empire stretched from the Indus River in the west to the Bengal region in the east; and from the Himalayan foothills in the north to the Narmada River in the south.
2. The Gupta Emperors followed a model of decentralised administration. They organized a hierarchy of officials exercising imperial authority in different parts of the country to help them systematically control their territories. There was a five tiered administration system in the regions which were under the direct control of the Gupta Empire.
