Blood is a colloid. bleeding stops when it coagulates, that is colloidal particles unite and precipitate. Potash alum is the compound commonly called phitkari is used for coagulation of blood. All colloids are charged as a result they remain suspended and do not precipoitate. Alum provides oppositely charged ions which neutralize the charge on colloid and so it precipitates.
