what is protic and non protic solvent?  

how to identify it and what are their properties?

Answer:
Protic Solvents- Those solvents which are the source of protons (H+) are said to be as a protic solvents. eg. - Ethanol, DMF etc.
Aprotic Solvents - Those solvents which do not give protons eg - Benzene, Ethers, CS2 etc.
 
To identify them we need to know their dissociation if after dissociation proton are released they are protic else non protic solvent.
