xRy is denoted to say that x is related to y. Here x is a domain of the relation R and y is the image of x.

Consider the relation R on real number as R ={(x, y): y = 2x + 1, where x and y are real numbers.}. 
If x = 1, then y = 3. This means the image of 1 (= x) is 3 (= y). We can write them as 1R3. 1R3 demonstrates that 1 is related to 3 on R where 1 is a number in domain and 3 is the image of 1.
