Gravitational force acting on a mass m = begin mathsize 12px style G fraction numerator M cross times m over denominator R squared end fraction end style.......................(1)
Where G is gravitational constant, M is mass of earth and R is the distance from earth centre to the location of mass m.
 
Intensity of gravitational field = Gravitational force per unit mass
 
Hence using eqn.(1), intensity of gravitational field = begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator G cross times M over denominator R squared end fraction end style
