Intensity formula,
I=Imax cos2 (δ) δ=phase difference
for path difference of λ, phase difference = 2 π
For this intensity is given as
M=Imax cos2 (δ) =Imax cos2 (2π) = Imax (1)
for path difference of λ /3, phase difference = (2 π)/3
I=Imax cos2 (δ) = Imax cos2 (2π/3)= Imax (1/4) = M/4
