The process of colonisation of India by the British reached its conclusion in the 19th century. Throughout this period, the English East India Company consistently exploited the farmers and forced them to produce raw materials for the sake of the British industries. At the same time, the Company administration purposefully conducted an economic blockade of the Indian textiles, so that British textiles could have a viable market in India. This policy was consistent with the imperial aspirations of Britain and was enforced with utmost shrewdness and even brutality from time to time.
