Please explain me the 7th line of introduction starting from "there was also no white". I did not understand the line i.e. "became the edifice of colonial domination".

There was no ‘white settler population’ in India means that no European with white skin was settled in India at this time.

 Edifice of colonial domination’ means that in Kenya and Zimbabwe, Europeans (often referred to as white settlers’) had settled and had taken control of the land. They became the edifice or strong symbols of colonial rule over the native people.
