The Indus Valley civilization flourished from 2600 to 1900 B.C.E. It began to decline after 1900 BCE. Towards the end of the civilisation, a strong unifying element, perhaps the Harappan state, came to an end. This is because the uniformity in the ratio of seals, pottery, bricks and weights began to disappear. The local use of weights became common and cities began to be abandoned. The period after 1900 BCE is marked by the disappearance of the distinctive artefacts of the civilisation – weights, seals, special beads. Writing, long-distance trade, and craft specialisation also disappeared. House construction techniques deteriorated and large public structures were no longer produced.
