a satellite is revolving in a orbit close to surface of earth with kinetic energy K. When the kinetic energy is increased to nK, the satellite escapes. What is the minimum value of n?

When a satellite is orbiting around a planet/earth, its potential energy is negative and its magnatiude is twice of its kinetic energy.
(Please refer NCERT Text book for class XI , part-1 or Resnick & Halliday, volume-1 ).
Hence if kietic energy is K, then potential energy of satellite is -2K so that total energy is negative [ (K-2K) = -K ] and
satellite is bound to the gravitational field due to the planet .
 
if Total energy becomes zero or greater than zero, satellite escapes. To make the satellite to escape, kinetic energy is increased to n×K so that 
 
total energy = n×K - 2K = 0 , that gives n = 2
