1) The lift is accelerating downward with acceleration 'a'. 
 
2) The ball is thrown upwards with an acceleration 'a0' upwards. But, a0 < a. So, the net acceleration is a - a0.
 
3) As the man is stationary on Earth, he will see the ball coming down along with the lift. But, the acceleration of the ball will be a - a0. So, the correct answer is option 4.
