Answer:

'i' is the current floing from positive terminal to negative terminal in external circuit.
Let E be the e.m.f of cell.
'r' is the internal resistance of cell.
Direction of 'ir' is opposite to that of the e.m.f of cell 'E'.
Thus the potential difference 'V' is given as,
V=E - ir ...(1)

C u r r e n t space i space equals fraction numerator space e. m. f over denominator r e s i s tan c e space end fraction
rightwards double arrow i equals fraction numerator E over denominator R plus r end fraction space... left parenthesis r space a n d space R space a r e space i n space s e r i e s space w i t h space e a c h space o t h e r right parenthesis
V equals E minus fraction numerator E over denominator R plus r end fraction cross times r

V equals space E open parentheses 1 minus fraction numerator r over denominator R plus r end fraction close parentheses

V equals space E open parentheses fraction numerator R plus r minus r over denominator R plus r end fraction close parentheses equals fraction numerator E R over denominator R plus r end fraction

V space left parenthesis R plus r right parenthesis space equals E R

rightwards double arrow space r equals fraction numerator R left parenthesis E minus V right parenthesis over denominator V end fraction
