Answer:
Speed of boat in still water = 16/2 = 8 km/hr.
 
water velocity = 4 km/hr
 
velocity in upstream direction = 8-4 = 4 km/hr
time for travelling 8 km upstream = 8/4 = 2 hr
 
velocity in downstream direction = 8+4 = 12 km/hr
time for travelling 8 km downstream = 8/(8+4) = (2/3) hr = 40 min.
 
total tme of travelling = 2 hr 40 minutes
