expanded volume of mercury = V×γ×ΔT = 0.3×1.82×10-4 ×15 = 8.19×10-4 cm3
where V is volume before heating, Υ is volume expansion coefficient and ΔT is increase in temperature.
raise of mercury meniscus in the stem of diameter 0.01 cm is = (expanded volume) / (cross section area)
raise of mercury = 8.19×10-4 / (π×0.25×0.01×0.01) = 10.43 cm
