Q 2. Which of the following is not the simplest ratio of 6:3?

Solution

2:1 is the simplest ratio of 6:3.

Q 3. Find the ratio of 4 kg to 1000 gm.

Solution

1 kg = 1000 gm

Hence, 4 kg: 1000 gm = 4000 gm: 1000 gm = 4:1.

Q 4. The ratio 4:3 is proportional to

Solution

Consider 4:3::12:9

Product of extreme terms = 4 × 9 = 36

Product of middle terms = 3 × 12 = 36

Product of extreme terms = Product of middle terms

Hence, they are in proportion.

Q 5. Find the product of the middle terms in the ratio 10:5::5:2.5.

Solution

The product of the middle terms is 25.

Q 6. If Reena paid Rs. 60 for 12 pens, then the cost of 6 pens is

Solution

According to the question,

The cost of a pen is 60/12 = Rs. 5.

Hence, the cost of 6 pens is 5 × 6 = Rs. 30.

Q 7. There are 25 girls in a class of 40 students. The ratio of girls to boys is

Solution

There are 25 girls in a class of 40 students.

Hence, there are 40 25 = 15 boys.

Hence, the ratio of girls to boys is 25:15 = 5:3.

Q 8. A bike covers 60 km in 3 hours. If it travels at the same speed, then how much will it cover in 4 hours?

Solution

A bike covers 60/3 = 20 km in an hour. Hence, it will cover a distance of 20 × 4 = 80 km in 4 hours.

Q 9. The two quantities to be compared must be in ____ units.

Solution

The two quantities to be compared must be in same units.

Q 10. The ratio of 1 m to 2 cm is

Solution

1 m = 100 cm

Hence, 1 m:2 cm = 100 cm:2 cm = 50:1

Q 11. If the combined length of 5 equal rods is 80 m, then the combined length of 3 equal rods is

Solution

The combined length of 5 equal rods is 80 m.

The length of 1 rod is 80/5 = 16 cm.

Hence, the combined length of 3 rods is 16 × 3 = 48 m.

Q 12. A person earns Rs. 3500 in 5 days. How much will he earn in 30 days?

Solution

A person earns Rs. 3500 in 5 days.

Hence, per day he earns 3500/5 = Rs. 700.

In 30 days, he will earn 700 × 30 = Rs. 21000.

Q 13. Find x if 6:5::x:30.

Solution

According to the question,

5x = 6 × 30

5x = 180

x = 36

Q 14. The ratio 2:3 is not proportional to

Solution

The ratio 2:3 is not proportional to 3:2.

Q 15. Find the product of the extreme terms in the given ratio 5:8::10:16.
