Hi Ananay,

A voltmeter is a device used to measure the voltage between two points in a circuit. Now, the voltage remains the same, i.e., the same voltage drop is experienced between two points connected in parallel. Hence, if the voltmeter is connected in parallel it will give the same reading as the voltage drop is existing between those two points. If however connected in series, the drop will be different based on the resistances.
