Hi Hari,

Tension is the force that is transmitted through a rope, string or a wire or similar such utilities when it is pulled tight by forces acting from opposite ends. When we stretch a rope, the rope has inbuilt potential energy which acts as tension in the rope.

It can also imply that the rope can withstand a certain amount of force before it breaks. This limit is maximum tension.

The force on an object in contact with the ground when the object is stationary is called static friction.
