Expert Answer
Gerunds, infinitives, and participles are main types of non-finite verbs, that is, they cannot function as the predicate verb in the main clause.
Gerund: an -ing verb that functions as a noun.
Reading is my favourite thing to do.
Gardening is a healing experience.
The infinitive: verbs that are preceded by 'to'.
I have to meet my friend today.
She likes to solve puzzles.
Participles: -ed and -ing verbs that can sometimes function as adjectives
The drowning ship cried for the last time.
I am going to the library.
The wounded soldier fought till his last breath.
The best way to remember non-finite verbs is to practise as often as you can.
Happy studying!
