A little baby was playing in a park with his maid. Suddenly he fell down and got minor injury. Maid applied tincture of iodine on the wound.
i) Why did she apply tincture of iodine on the wound?
ii) Name the solute and solvent present in tincture of iodine.

Hi Sayani,
i) The maid applied tincture iodine because it is an antiseptic solution generally used to cure minor wounds.
ii) In tincture iodine, the solute present is elemental iodine with traces of NaI (sodium iodide and KI (potassium iodide) and the solvent is a mixture of alcohol and water.
iii) The maid did not panic in the situation. She showed her presence of mind and gave a prompt and appropriate first aid.
