why voltage is given high through power station ?

from power stations the electricity comes to sub power stations via power lines.
these lines usually are very long between different states and also thus have high resistance.
Since power lost in a circuit with series connections has current constant throughout and in long lines the wires are connected in series with each other, is expressed as:
 
P = I2 R
 
and thus to decrease power loss we need to reduce current and hence increase voltage
