Why is a voltmeter connected in parallel?

voltmeter is connected in parallel because its internal resistance is very high and due this it does not affect the value of current flowing in the circuit.

If the voltmeter is connected in the circuit in series then there will be almost zero current in the circuit because of its very high resistance.
