why does the current remain constant when 2 or more resistors are connected in a series combination?

In an electric circuit the electric current depends on the emf of the battrey and total resistance of the circuit. In a circuit having resistances in series combination, the total current has only one path to flow, i.e., through each resistance connected in series. That's why the current flowing in a circuit having resistances in series is constant.
