Why do we need to stain some of the cells with dye like iodine or safranin solution and what colour will the cell be without colour?

The cells are stained to enhance the visualization of the cell components or metabolic activities taking place within cells.

Iodine is starch indicator hence, weak iodine stains imparts black or blue black colour to cell components such as cell wall or nucleus.

Safranin: It stains nucleus of a cell. It imparts red colour to nuclei.

A cell without stain should appear colourless.
