which one is more appropriate to be said.. - mass on both the sides of the chemical equation is same or - the number of atoms on both sides of the chemical equation is same?

The law of conservation of mass dictates ----- the quantity of each element does not change in a chemical reaction. Thus, each side of the chemical equation must represent the same quantity of any particular element. So, if quantity of element is same, mass will be the same on both side.
So, both the statements are correct.
