The concept of relative velocity is used to find out the time rate of change of relative position of one object with respect to another.

Relative velocity comes into picture when there are two objects.

For eg:
when two trains A and B are moving in opposite directions with velocities 100 mph and 50 mph respectively, then the relative velocity of A with respect to B (viewed from B) is 100+50 = 150 mph.
