Dominance in genetics is a relationship between alleles of a gene in which one allele masks the expression of another allele at the same locus. The dominant gene is a gene which expresses itself in the presence of another same allele (homozygous) or in the presence of another alternate allele (heterozygous). The recessive gene is the one that requires both alleles to be the same (homozygous) to have an effect.
