What is the role of the brain in reflex action?

The actual reflex action is carried out by the spinal cord, but information inputs also reach the brain. This is important so that the brain can remember the incident and act accordingly in future.
For example, The act of removing the hand away on touching a hot plate is a reflex action, done without any thought given to it. However, since the information also reaches the brain, we will avoid touching the hot plate knowingly in future.
