We cannot use saline ocean water since it has large amount of salt content. If used for washing, it will leave salt residues. First the marine water has to be desalinated to make it fit for human consumption.

Desalination refers to any of several processes that remove some amount of salt and other minerals from saline water. Salt water is desalinated to produce fresh water suitable for human consumption or irrigation. But this is a costly process.
