Let us take a = 2n+3   b=2n+1
a+b=4n+4   (a+b)/2=2n+2   as 2n is always even and even integer plus 2 is always even, so (a+b)/2 is always even.
Now a-b=2 and (a-b)/2=2/2=1 ,so this is odd.
