V = i R is the ohm's law, which states that the voltage between two points is the product of current flowing through the points and the resistance involved. Rating an appliance means the particular appliance refers the amount of voltage required for the appliance to work/ or function. Any voltage less than this cannot operate the appliance. Voltage is the differnce in potential between two points in an electric circuit.
