How do cartilage fishes differ from bony fishes?

Marine

Marine or fresh water

Mouth ventral in position

Mouth terminal in position

Skin tough and covered with placoid scales

Skin either naked or covered with cycloid or ctenoid scales

5 or 7 pairs of gills open outside by gill slits, which are uncovered by operculum

4 pairs of gills covered by operculum

Tail is heterocercal

Tail is homocercal

Cloaca present

Cloaca absent

Excrete urea

Excrete ammonia
