How can we examine a small piece of onion peel under a microscope?
Take an onion and cut it in four pieces (lengthwise).
With the help of a forcep, take thin strip of peel from the inner concave side of the onion.
Cut a square of thin peel and mount it in few drops of water on a slide or stain with iodine or eosin solution.
Cover the slip with the cover slip carefully and observe under the microscope.
You will obsevre that the cells are firmly bound together.The nucleus is placed towards one side which is usually the case in case of plant cells.
