The best way to do this type of problem would be by Conservation of Energy.
Initial Kinetic Energy: KE = 2 x 1/2mv2 = mv2
At the point of closest approach:
PE = u and let force between them be: F
thus, F= -du/dr   here r is the distance between the charges.
and let ro be equilibrium distance.
