AB is a diameter of a circle APB; AH and BK are perpendicular from A and B respectively to the tangent at P ; prove that AH+ BK=AB.

draw perpendicular from centre O to point P . it is also the radius of the circle .

now,AH = PO and BK = PO

therefore 2PO = AH + BK

but 2PO = AB ( 2 radius = diameter)

so AB = AH + BK
