A block is placed on inclined plane and connected at one end with a spring. Suppose block is moved down the plane by some distance. We say that at equilibrium work done on the block is equal the potential energy stored in the spring. Pl. explain

Elastic potential energy is defined as potential energy stored as a result of deformation of the elastic object such as spring.
According to Hooke's Law, the force required to stretch the spring is directly proportional to the amount of stretch.
So, F = -Kx , where k is the spring constant and x is the amount of stretch.
So , the work done to stretch a spring is , W = F.dx = 1/2 Kx
The change in the potential energy of the block between two positions is equal to amount of work done to move it from oneposition to another .
So, P.E  = integral of Kxdx from 0 to x. and it will be equal to 1/2 Kx2.
So, work done on the block is stored as potential energy of the spring.
