Maharashtra Class 10 Answered

You must have seen chandelires having glass prisms and we see coloured spectrum. If we use an LED light instead of a tungsten bulb, will we be able to see the same effect?

Lamp with tungsten filament emits thermal radiations in wide range of frequency when it is heated up by passing current.
We get the entire visible range of light in this thermal radiation. Hence light radiation of entire visible range is passed through
the glass prisms of chandlier, dispersion of light is taking place. Hence we get spectrum of light.

Most of the LED light is emitted as fixed color having narrow wavelength and this light radiation of narrow wavelength
is passing through the glass prisms, dispersion will not takes place. So we will not get spectrum of colors.
If LED light is giving white light, we will get spectrum
